This doesn’t mean having the feeling of “love” for God. Though it certainly can, it is not limited to our feelings. In fact, it goes well beyond our feelings.
When we love the Lord, it is a commitment. And the Bible makes it clear it is also an action.
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. – 1 John 5:3 (ESV)
Those who love the Lord will keep His commandments in obedience. Not because we feel guilty or burdened to do so, but because we desire to follow God’s law and order even when it doesn’t make sense or even when we don’t feel like it. This shows our trust in the Lord. To love God means to set His commandments over our desires and our understandings.
